So I picked up this 4dr HT off a good friend. Real solid car, it was on kijiji for awhile with a honkin' 302 that one of its previous owners had a buttload of cheddar in. My buddy kept the engine and posi then sold me the rest. Plans are to drop a 351W/AOD combo and drive the wheels off it next summer. Most likely with a for sale sign in the back window.
Lol, I was 10 seconds from owning this before the built 302 went in it, it still had a 289 IIRC and needed a couple window motors. I was swapping the 383 powered S10 that i had. I waffled on the deal a little too long and when I finally said the hell with it and got back to him his wife or GF said nope and the deal was off. Then I took a run at it again when the new motor went in and couldn't put that together either. I want this car so bad my teeth hurt lol... wanna take a one owner 77 deville for it as it sits? Lol.... I didn't think so..love it man, its going to be very very cool when it goes back on the road.
Thanks guys, I'm looking forward to driving it as daily runner next summer.
Hey bygddy when you were looking at the car was it a young lad that had it or was the car in Clarence or was it prior to both? I heard it was an older woman's car at one time. Just trying to figure out where it came from and how long it's been grey for (was green at one time)
I had the S10 at the beginning ish of 2013, at the time it was a young lad I assume, he had planned on buying/building something fast. When I finally decided to do the swap his wife put the brakes on it (so he said)
Then shortly after it came back up with the fresh 302 and a bunch of go fast parts on it. I tried to swap something, can't remember for sure, maybe the Comet? But he didn't want to bite. Then I lost touch with it. It looked identical to what it does now, I think it needed a couple window motors and not much else, I even think it was right near Carslbad because we were going to meet at D&S at the time..... that's about all I know sir.
I heard he sunk about 12g's into it mostly Ford Motorsport goodies. He was supposed to buy the shell back before I bought it but I guess the timing was bad and couldn't come up with the scratch, my buddy needed it gone asap. I feel kinda bad cause I want to see more young people in the hobby, I really like the car and if I hadn't bought it somebody else would have.
Yah, I had pics of it all together, I know he had big money in all Ford stuff. Not sure if it ever got completed and running right. I'm really glad you got it and it didn't end up scraped or on 24" wheels.
Yep, dodged a big ugly bullet there for sure lol... unless there a pair of carbs on a tunnel ram, or a pair of carbs sitting on top of a 6-71 I have never understood the appeal with those.
Picked up the 351W last weekend, spent a few hours today outside in this winter like weather with Tinworks knocking all the EFI crap off it. Now I need a pro de-gunker to come over and give me a hand to clean it up :)
I decided to leave the AOD behind and use the C4 that's in it, that way I don't have to go digging for a driveshaft.
Spent a little more time on the engine this fine weekend while all my friends were off to Stirling.
All degunked and ready for paint
And even though I didn't make it to the flea market my order went in and was filled with an aluminum intake, carb and valve covers. Still need to track down a pan and distributor.
I wasn't going to bother but now I'm going to do chain and gears cam and lifters
Mounts are wrong so there's still some messin' around to be done. There's a couple bolts in the trans and the torque converter is buttoned up to the fly wheel so it ain't coming back out.
So it's been shipped off for the winter for body and paint. The vinyl roof has been stripped and the stainless and rear door handles are all going away. Haven't made up my mind with regards to color combo's all I know is the roof won't be the same color as the body.
Thoughts on colors?
I'm leaning towards gloss black and a really metallic silver for the roof. The black depends on how straight it ends up. The interior is a ****ty green that I may try to dye.
More progress, the roof is repaired and ready for a new skin it's incredible how thin the metal was in some spots of the roof. Repairing the roof kicked the crap out of my budget. Rear door handles are getting shaved.
Tail pan lip is repaired (was previously repaired with aluminum tape and paint). Getting rid o the FORD script but keeping the emblem, all the stainless is going away too.
My Dad was talking to our body man the other day, the roofs got the new skin on it. I can't wait to go take a few pics but at the same time I need to put a little cash together before I go out.
