Just had that happen to a friend of mine, accept 2/3 of the cam is wiped out. Just goes to show the importance of either good cam break-in proceedure and, or making sure the oil being used has zinc. The extra cost of Brad Penn or Joe Gibbs oil is well worth it for these older engines and cams. My wifes 70 Torino is starting to get a little lifter tick so I'm expecting the worst. Not sure if the former owner used the proper oil, guess I'll find out soon enough! Also I'm about to fire up a rather expensive 428 Cobra Jet for my 69 Torino and am loosing sleep hoping the cam will live through the first 15 minutes. Should have went with a roller set up. Put Brad Penn and a zinc additive in the big block for break-in, Got my fingers and toes crossed
