its just the expectations eastern Ontario and some other think old cars are gold. Most of these cars sit and rot or get sold to people who have no clue to what it will take to turn a field car into a decent safe driver.
Ok ok, I get the hint, lol. 6G is too much. I'm a newb, what do you expect ;).
I'm really starting to think that 'traditional' cars aren't for me. I need something odd. If anyone sees anything strangely appealing in their travels, let me know. I've got a real chub for 50s-70's British Fords (pre-Fox-body-style Capris, Cortinas, RWD Escorts, Consul, the Anglia sedans with the funky roofline, etc), anything Vauxhall & Opel (or the GM-imported equivalents: Early-mid 70's Vega, Buick Opel sedans, early 70s Firenzas, etc). Basically, smaller gas-crisis 60s and 70s cars :). Hell, even a decent two-door Chevette would be nice!
See, I'm a LOSER...I want a Chevette, lol.
Chevette's are cool Some guy had one with a 4.3 Chevy down my way for sale couple years ago. I remember a Car Mag doing a 425 Caddy swap in one - for strip use! That would be a Blast, I used to fix them a lot at AJ Chev Olds;snow would get blown under the hood and the timing belts would always 'jump' a cog or two-good on gas, easy to fix. Just a "Southern Loser" LOL

My finances are crap, probably won't drive the car this year. Gonna try to get everything in order by the Syracuse Nationals so I can get a new project afterwards.
The extra cold we've had the last few days has really kicked me in the balls. I ****ing hate winter.
John, Chevettes were good cars. Actually Chevrolet built them too good. My buddies mother had one up until about a year ago. You just couldn't kill the thing. A full frame too if I am not mistaken.
Been laying low for a bit, trying to get through the last bit of winter. I'm still tinkering on the Colt, but most of my funds are going towards getting my **** together before the Syracuse Nats, lol. I figure when I come back from there, I'm going to want to build something else ;).
Ahh, just feelin' sorry for myself. Took an honest look at my finances and decided that I've got to put more effort into fixing mistakes I've made over the years. Really puts a dent in the 'car' budget...mainly removes all of it. It'll take until the Syracuse nationals to get some of it fixed, and until then I'm going to be broke as a joke. So naturally, I post emo statuses wherever I can, because that's the internet for you.
I'm still working on the car, but my scrap pile is getting smaller and smaller, so I'll eventually run out of stuff to do and I'll have to sit and wait like a grownup, lol.

I hear ya I'm basically broke myself lol... in need of some money that's for sure, but I can't let that get me down or stop me from dreaming of my next project.. geez that reminds me, I have to pick up a '46 Ford cab I bought next month! :) Things will get better, and you'll be able to put some money into your 'car budget' again!
I have never had a car budget I make it work or do with out. Its easier to ask forgiveness that permission. I also have enough junk that liquidating a few unwanted items can pay for other unneeded items. Junk for junk as long as it does not come from the house hold budget.
If I don't give myself a car budget, ALL money goes to cars, lol. That's the mistake I was referring to. Lived like that for a long time, kinda effed myself over ;).
I know it's 'modern', but I kinda see it as hot-rodding, in a different way. I use parts from many different cars, stuff from my scrap piles, and anything I can get my hands on for free. I got it running an ECU from a 2003 Eclipse that I flashed with the file from a 2003 Lancer Evolution 8 (AWD, turbo, etc), and I did the flash with a $5 diagnostic cable I got from ebay (generously hacked by yours truly ;)) as opposed to the $150 cable that is sold for the same purpose. I also got it up and running on the stock computer, but I had to re-write the software in the main chip to account for the changes in equipment under the hood. Luckily I had a few spare re-writeable chips left over from various tuning jobs (and fax machines, lol).
If it can run a car, I need to know how it works. Can't help it...I'm a snooper. Carbs, computers, diesel pumps, I've taken them all apart :).
Cool... geez I can't say I've ever re-written the software in a main chip to account for changes... sounds complicated lol... But whatever you did worked!!! and its running... that's all that matters! Congrats
It's kinda like changing the jets and bleeds in a carb, and modding the distributor for a different curve with springs and weights...except I do it with a computer :).
That being said, my next project is DEFINITELY going to be carbed/dizzy'd. I can only take so much of this EFI stuff before my head starts to get sore, lol. I miss the smell of brass and gas on my hands :).
Scored a freebie rad from a 2000 Neon, and it's a perfect fit :). It was on the scrap pile at a garage a friend works at because one of the tranny cooler ports broke off the tank. I don't need the tranny cooler part, so it's perfect.
I'm heading to Kenny U-Pull gatineau tomorrow to see if I can dig up a fan of some sort.
Whipped up a quickie cradle for the new rad to sit in that uses the original rad mounts. Hopefully this saturday I can get to Kenny U-pull and find a fan. I still haven't been able to get there.
I just had to put $400 worth of work into the daily mini-Ford, but it's money well spent I guess. Next to a 2000 Saturn I had, this is the best daily I've ever owned. Terrible on gas, but cheap-ish on parts and dead simple to work on. Not to mention that it passes emissions without issue :).
Well, if I could figure out a good way to register my car in your areas, I would, lol. Not a fan of the emissions testing, and every car I own passes clean as a whistle. Tax grab much? :(
Stopped by Kenny Upull (I love that place) and got a fan & shroud from a dodge neon (non-A/C) to fit the neon rad I'm using, some coolant piping, and an inline coolant filler neck from a 2001 Dakota V6 (like the moroso/jegs ones except it cost me $0.99 w/cap). This haul cost me $20 after tax, which makes me very happy considering the money I shelled out this weekend to pay my debt to the province that the friendly policeman reminded me of on friday. $425 in tickets, and $200 in sticker/renewal fees.
Ahhhh...a lot of fun for $200 though. You could put it in your garage and look at it and sit with it for a long time......then slowly get parts for it.....
^^^ true, that would be fun... then just slowly get stuff you need. That's all I'm doing with my new project ('46 Ford Rat Rod)... just slowly accumulating parts as I go. I've already built it 6 times in my head but reality is slow to catch up lol
I wish I could, it's exactly what I'm looking for. It might be a bit outside my skill level, but learning is one of the things I like to do most :).
I've got to focus on cleaning up a few other things, so that if I have to get another long-term daily driver, I don't have to scrap any project plans. I hate that.
I really want a Pinto or a Vega. Ideally, it would be a 70's british ford (Cortina, Escort, etc), or even a 60's Anglia...but Pintos are easier to find.
Not feeling the urge to finish my Colt, at least not in the normal way. I want to scrap all the fuel injection and turbo for a set of dual carbs. Wouldn't pass emissions at that point though :(.
DAMMIT! There's a British 68 Ford Zodiac on kijiji right now. Because I'm a doof, I have to watch it pass me by. There had better be some britfords around next year...
Yeah, and I'm royally pissed at myself. In the past year I've had to pass up two Ford Cortinas, a Vauxhall Firenza, and now this Zodiac :(. I really like the British/Euro stuff from the 60s-70s, and they don't pop up too frequently. Sigh :(.
Hell, at this point I'd even take a pinto. They make dual carb manifolds for the 2.3 :). I've considered a Vega, but it would have to be an early one. I hate the frog-eye look of the later ones.

I've always dug the Pinto, because I'm nuts, lol. A Bobcat would do too :).
I got bored last night, since I can't spend on the car until after Syracuse and I need something to do. Pulled off the driver's side trim/mirror and started painting them. The car is too monochromatic, so it's getting some strategic blackening. Of course I found more near-rot, sigh. Might just give it a quick skim and spray, not sure. I hate working with bondo.
Had an appt for safety/emissions today...never made it. Engine went pop :(. Cyl #1 ended up with 50 psi compression HOT. Not exactly sure what's going to happen next...
Can't sell a Colt with a dead engine, lol. They're a hard enough sell as it is :(.
I may have 'arranged' a replacement powerplant, but it's up in the air.
Same family of engines as my current one, except it's a 2.0L vs. my 1.6. Direct bolt in :). It's got goodies too: ARP head studs, steel head gasket, refurbished head (seals, shaved, etc). Should be a nice upgrade...and easier to sell that way, lol.
