FFS...
I'm doing so much fabrication on this car, it's not funny anymore. The driver's door hinges are NLA, and do not exist in the aftermarket. The hinges themselves are not meant to be rebuilt either...so I had to bust out the grinder. The bushings in the hinges are steel...not bronze...so the pin is heavily grooved. I'm heading to Princess auto tomorrow to get some 5/16" zinc coated PTO takeoff pins, which are EXACTLY the diameter I need. A quick pass with the cutting disc around the outside of one end, and I've got a spot for a C-clip.
You'd think I'm building a car that's a few decades old, but nope! This is getting out of hand, lol.
Ready for safety/emissions. Now I just need spring.
I've made some progress on the car fund, so hopefully I'll be rocking something a bit more vintage soon. Let me know if anyone finds any 50-70s british fords :).
So, my credit cards are completely paid off, my Colt is completely legal (safety and emissions done), and the mini-Ford is still reliable enough to get me through the last of the winter. Life is good :). This is going to be a summer for cruising and car shows, can't wait!
Well, the 2002 Subaru I bought at Kenny Upull is on the road now, so the Colt is back in the garage without plates or insurance. Not really sure what I'm going to do with it, since it runs great but is a rotten sack of **** underneath. I should have thrown this car away, but I stuck with it...and rushed it on to the road. Bad idea. I'm not so in love with it that I want to strip it down and redo all the bad stuff, again, but I can't really figure out what to do next. My money tree is currently bare, so I may end up just going to more car shows and saving up for something else this summer. If I had the money, I'd be all over bygddy's Merc, but my timing is just a bit off, lol.
I'm also tempted to save up until next feb when we go to Florida for two weeks to visit my Ma and Step-Pa. Craigslist Orlando is full of all sorts of cool stuff :).
Wish you coulda bought it lol, woulda been neat. I got lucky today and my buddy decided to buy it, he will cruise it tis year, and next sprimg i can re-purchase it for same money if i want it. Im kinda jonesing for a mid to late 70's lincoln Mark V to put on bags tho....so who knows.....not to jack your thread but i had the Merc in the air today and good lord its clean
Damn, that IS clean!
I have offered the Colt to a buddy, so if he takes it, I'll be taking a few months to look for something else to work on. I'll be a projectless LOSER, but it'll hopefully pay off in the end :).
So if the car gods aren't just f**king with me...I may have one of my many dream projects soon.
I was cruising Kijiji, as usual, and saw an ad for an 84 Rabbit pickup for $300. It was a complete basket case, and on Wolfe Island, so I kinda wrote it off. I sent a text to a buddy with a Junkyard in Kaladar as a head's up. He calls the guy and then calls me in a panic. Turns out the guy is on Wolfe Island...but the car is in Kaladar! It's also not just a Rabbit pickup, but a pickup AND a diesel Rabbit! FOR $300.
So, wednesday both vehicles may end up at my buddy's junkyard, and I'll be heading up on the weekend to round up the truck. The Rabbit will go to my friend for parting/profit. This means my share is $150, lol. I'm actually looking for a nasty basket case so I can strip it down and redo it all, and rotten metal isn't an issue, so I'm pretty stoked.
I'm hoping that a slammed Rabbit pickup is LOSER worthy, at least for the humour value, lol.
Well things just may come together for you this time... $150 for a project to start is a deal lol... and crazy its where you're buddy lives too (perhaps meant to be??) Post some pics when you get er home :) Keep us posted, sounds LOSER worthy to me!
HA! It's mine now! :)
It's rough...really rough...but it's exactly what I was after. I'm pretty friggin stoked right now!
I'm heading up friday to check it out and will have some pics then. All I need is the hitch for my Subaru and I can bring it home...making that call now, lol.
I'm heading up friday to prep it all, and might go back sat if I can find a way to haul it back.
Here's a pic of the nastiness...be warned, it's not pretty...
Yes, it is a rat bagged pile of ****, and rustier than the titanic after 50 years under water...but that's exactly what I'm after. Nothing makes a LOSER like building something out of trash, simply because you like it...and it was $150 (including ownership and keys), lol :).
