..and it's one of my "must own before I die" cars. A '51 shoebox.
It's in rough shape, but the price was right. It also came with a newer leather interior and SBC which I plan to unload. There are a lot of 4 doors out there but the tudors and couoes are getting a little harder to find at a decent price. I'm thinking of picking up a decent 4dr and merging the two to make one good car. I can't wait to get started in it.
I've been subscribing to shoebox threads for a while now knowing that one day I would be rebuilding one. I've been contemplating picking up a decent 4dr to get all the guts and parts needed for this build.
Ha! I've been dying to work on it. I've had to get the garage in order before I can bring it in. Also, apparently getting the christmas decorations up is more important.
I'm going to have a hard time getting it in the garage. I think the brakes are seized.. it took a lot to get it off the trailer and when it roll off, it didn't go far. I'd like to get it in the garage by the weekend and start tearing it down.
Big news.. the ownership is finally in my name and managed to get the car inside the garage. I wasn't done with my garage cleanup/renos but with the storm coming tomorrow, I'd rather have it inside. Now the fun begins.
Finally managed to get some a small amount of time in the garage. I removed the passenger fender and gutted the interior. After a bit of research, it looks like the interior is out of a seventh gen Mercury Cougar.
I'm putting an order in today for new rockers and floor braces. The floor pans are simple enough that I make them myself (hopefully).
Well it's been too damn cold to do anything. I still haven't insulation the attic above the garage, so it's -8c in there right now. The good news though, the rockers and floor braces have arrived.
Now that the one year old goes to bed a little earlier I'm able to head into the garage more often. Managed to free up the seized brakes so I can roll it in and out of the garage. The bigger news though is we've been planning a detached garage over the last few months and the building permit was finally approved today. Super excited and can't wait to get started on it.
I'm going to try this again since my first attempt was marked as spam.
Been slowly working on the '51, but decided I needed something to drive around this summer. I picked up a '49 four door this weekend. It's in decent, original shape. Need to fix the horn and there's a clacking noise coming from the engine (hopefully nothing major), but it runs great, all lights work. Went up and down the street today. Feels great to be driving a classic. More pictures of the '51 soon.

No, found it near Montreal. Needs a little bit of TLC but should hopefully have it on the road in the next week or two. BTW, were you at the Rockland cruise night on Tuesday? Are you in the area?

I haven't been anywhere this year but my Dad aka Mr. COB and Bill aka Tinworks are usually there. Mr. COB has a beard and long white hair. Say hi next time, he too is building a collection of 49 to 51 Fords :)
I actually bought this one as an eventual donor for the '51 body that I'm working on, but it's in really decent shape that we'll probably hold on to it. That means I'll be buying another one in the near future :)
So not much has happened to the cars since the summer, mostly because we decided they needed a new place to live.
When we bought the property, we planned to eventually build a garage/workshop but we didn't think it would happen this fast. We decided it was probably a good idea to do it sooner rather than later, and since the wife is the one who suggested it, I wouldn't argue against it.We just finished the electrical so now I pick up the fun again.
Got the front end off and the chevy engine out of the '51. Hadn't noticed the engine mounts were just tacked in, so even though the bolts were out, the mounts came off with the engine.
The '49 needs some work before I can drive it this summer. I still haven't passed safety yet. Last summer I went to the one local garage I would trust with a classic car and they gave me a short list of what I would need to do for them to pass it. Other than an engine knocking noise, there's nothing major and even there's some stuff he said he would have normally let go (small holes in inner fender) but he got ****ed by a customer who he helped pass a safety and he ended up selling the car with the safety.. anyhoo, I'm hoping I can find someone that can look over the body work so I can drive it around this summer.
haha thanks man. I'll let you know.. it'll still be a slow process, especially with baby #2 just a few months away.. but at least I'm making some progress.
